A Typical Day in the 3K, 4K, and 5K Room

In a short time, your child will walk into his or her classroom like it is their own room at home.  Children often head straight to a waiting friend or favorite activity to start their day.  They have various opportunities to self-select exciting activities that are developmentally appropriate, yet challenging.  Children will socialize with friends and experience new activities.  Teachers split into smaller groups to capitalize on the child's own level of learning.  Children are often engaged in lively conversations relating to the monthly thematic unit. They get involved in activities that improve coordination and learn complex games that help both their body and mind.  It is an exciting and stimulating environment that your child will thrive in.

"My son always has a "good day".  The best thing is knowing he is learning in a clean and safe environment."
- Brady's dad

The 3, 4, and 5 K day begins with the children and teachers meeting for circle time to discuss the calendar, the weather, the letter or number of the day, and other exciting activities planned for the day.  Next a story read by the teacher helps the children get a better understanding of the thematic concepts that they are learning about.  Then some children head off to a math or art activity with one teacher, some children work on a writing or science activity with another teacher, and the rest of the children make their way through various learning centers in the classroom while they are waiting to be called to work with the teacher on daily lessons.

Learning Centers may include:

  • Reading and Writing Area
  • Construction Area
  • Computer Work Stations
  • Creative Art Center
  • Music and Rhythm Time
  • Book Listening Station
  • Dramatic Play Area
  • Legos and Puzzles
  • Small Manipulatives
  • Science Station
  • Library Corner
  • Educational Game Center

When the weather permits, the children go outside for active play and to explore the great outdoors.  Not only do the children exercise and burn off excess energy, they engage in creative play that also helps build large motor skills.

Meals and snacks are wonderful times for the children to practice their manners, discuss the exciting events of the day, and learn more about friends.  The children experiment with pouring their own milk and serving themselves food.  Children enjoy serving the snack about one time per month on their snack day; this not only builds self esteem, but allows the child to learn the importance of sharing with their classmates.

A rest period will be provided to children under the age of five in order to prevent the children from becoming over-stimulated and fatigued.

Throughout the year, children learn about the community they live in through special visits with police, fire fighters, environmentalists, and other community members.  They play an active role in the community by sharing food and other items during center-sponsored events; they learn the importance of sharing and giving to other who are less fortunate and need assistance.
